I am Ethiopian and Moorish, and that heritage shapes everything about how I move through the world, how I see science, how I understand community, why representation matters so deeply to me, and why I believe knowledge has always belonged to everyone.

This page is a space to explore that. More coming soon :)

Goorsha Durham, NC

One of my favorite memories is going to Goorsha in Durham with my friend J. If you've never been to an Ethiopian restaurant, the experience is communal by design. The injera bread, which is a spongy sourdough flatbread, is laid out as the base, and all the dishes come on top of it. You eat together, tearing and sharing from the same plate. There are no separate portions. No dividing things up. Just people around a table sharing food from the same source. I was really fortunate to share this experience of eating (fantastic) Ethiopian food with a dear friend!
